Queen St Undressed

Queen St Life Dawing

The Queen St Undressed exhibition is presented by a group of artists who meet fortnightly at the Queen St Hall in Wingham for life drawing. During this time the space becomes our collective studio and it is from here that these art works have originated. The use of the human form is our common thread. How we each interpret the figure, what it means to us individually and therefore our expression of it, varies. Our work reflects who we are, our vision, our influences, our journey. We come together to practice, develop, study, express, and enjoy, and share this unique creative space. Please come along to the opening on Saturday 4th January at 2pm to celebrate this first exhibition for 2020.

Essence

Christopher Steele

This recently created body of work by Christopher Steele continues the exploration of the integration of analogous mark making combined with digital media that he has presented in his previous exhibitions.  The imagery that forms the basis of the compositions is of water, trees and the female figure. Vertical lines are overlaid and used as a metaphor for life, energy and sustainability. These elements are digitally manipulated to create exhilarating works that engage the viewer.  These are each unique and complex images that are difficult to replicate, this complexity provides a level of interest beyond the immediately evident and brilliantly vibrant colour and pattern. The viewer is drawn to look in more depth for the subtle representations of the female form.

Wild Dimensions

Michael Kolbe & Karen Bloomfield

Wild Dimensions  Michael Kolbe and Karen Bloomfield These two highly successful artists come together in this new exhibition at Gloucester gallery. Michael, having exhibited successfully with us previously in 2017 returns with his work extremely popular and sought after metal work sculptures. Karen is President of the Australian Society of Marine Artists and is an exhibiting Artist with the Royal Art Society of NSW, she is regularly represented in some of Australia’s most prestigious art awards. Recently Karen has visited Gloucester to run her terrific Charcoal and Ink workshops with the Gloucester Art Society. Michael Kolbe  Michael was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe where he developed a strong interest in the sculptures created from scrap metal that he found there. In March 1979 Mike, his wife Carol and their three sons immigrated to Australia, and have now settled in Old Bar on the Mid North Coast. After revisiting Zimbabwe in 1995 Michael renewed his interest in sculptural metalwork and set up a workshop at his home from where he creates his very popular pieces. His subject matter being animals, birds, insects, reptiles all from old tools welded together, he manages to capture beautifully character and movement in every individual piece.  Mike Kolbe also has his works represented by Gannon House Gallery in Sydney. Karen Bloomfield Karen completed her Diploma of Fine Art from the Newcastle Art School at the end of 2014 and now works from her Central Coast studio. She is a multi award  winning artist, with her works in International collections, with two in the Australian Consulate in Kabul, Afghanistan. Karen’s portrait of Fr. Jim Boland, completed for the 2013 Archibald Prize, hangs on permanent display at the NSW Police HQ in Parramatta.  Karen’s subject matter covers a broad range of interests. Working mainly in charcoal and inks for her portraits and bird pieces, she has a signature style of working on ply and incorporating the wood grain as integral to the finished piece.  Karen has many interests including an interest in architecture and paints Industrial Landscapes in oil and adopts what has been termed a ‘Reductionist Pop Art’ painting style in some of her work. Karen currently has her works represented by Audrey Fine Art Gallery in Sydney, Aarwun Gallery in the ACT & Bay Gallery at Ettalong on the Central Coast.

Resurrection

Lynda Love and Didier Colstoun

esurrection is a collaborative exhibition by Lynda Love and Didier Colstoun.   Lynda is a prolific avid artist who intentionally colours outside the lines as she refuses to fit in any box.  She loves to create and has stumbled across the magical alternative photographic process of Cyanotype.  She is a quiet story teller who resides in Blueys Beach area with her family and is constantly inspired by the nature that surrounds her.  Didier is originally from France has lived in Australia for decades.  Didier found himself on a self discovery trip in the Northern NSW area of Mullumbimbi in 2013 stumbled upon  pins and other odd pieces of heavy metal on long-abandoned and discarded railroads.  He focused on the odd and old, deeply rusted pieces of heavy metal lying scattered by the side. So he embarked on the potential to make designs, motifs and configurations. Both come together with their ingenious activity which has developed and  beautifully resurrected into aesthetic creations.

BLACK SUMMER, ONCE UPON A...FIRE

Dr Susana Enriquez

BLACK SUMMER, ONCE UPON A...FIRE  A solo exhibition by Dr Susana Enriquez was inspired by the 2019 bush fires which swept our nation’s bush with dreadful destruction.  The evocative and fierce colours of the fires shared daily in our news media at that time had a profound negative impact on her psyche.  The ubiquitous tragic news engulfed her and pushed her into an emotional downward spiral.  Following the COVID-19 lockdown, Susana confined in her studio, embarked on an artistic journey to paint the visions lingering in her mind.  Like the mythical Phoenix, Susan rose from the ashes of her emotional vicious cycle and rendered rampant flames and belching smoke in this abstract styled collection.

GLOUCESTER HIGH SCHOOL HSC

Six students sat for the HSC Visual Arts this year in GHS. All student produced excellent work from their efforts despite the interruption to the continuity of the course thanks to COVID-19.  Emily Dulihanty, Anneka Hooke, Leon Mackintosh, Lilly Ryll, Owen Tomlinson and Holly Willis were the 6 students.  Each student had approximately 12 months to settle on an idea for the Body of Work then develop the complexity of the chosen subject by building layers of idea and technique in order to impress the markers so they can achieve a good result.  Overall they all produced a very strong Body of Work for their final examination in their HSC. Owen and Holly both produced and submitted Time Based artworks in the form of short videos that followed their selected theme. Anneka Hooke:  "Voyage de la Femalle" (The Female Journey) Emily Dulihanty:  "Vital and vanishing" Leon Mackintosh:  "Les Yeux Societaux" Lilly Ryll:  1. "Terminal Fracture" and 2.
