Paying Silent Homage

John Andrews has been painting for over 40 years and won the Camden Haven Bicentenary prize in 1980 and was highly commended by Lloyd Rees at the Festival of Fishers Ghost.

He attended an abstraction workshop at University of New England in the 1980s and had a lot of success selling semi-abstract paintings at various exhibitions on the Northern Tablelands and overseas. This is John's 4th Gloucester Exhibition -feeling he has finally captured the darker greens of coastal vegetation. A succession of paintings over the last few months has seen a gradual return to the traditional style using oil acrylics.

Having studied Art at school, Kristine Lappan (Tina) decided to make it a career and gained entry to Sydney Technical College to study a three year Art course where she found her favourite medium was pencil and charcoal.

After completing the course, Tina worked in cartooning for several years and subsidised her income by selling her art work. Later, with her sister, she opened the very successful "Bali in Profile", bringing to Sydney for 28 years, the wonderful creativity and culture of Indonesia.

Now that Tina has retired and moved to Gloucester she has decided to dabble in art again after a very long hiatus. This is a small selection of her work.

Stuart Wellings is an emerging artist who was born in Moree in 1978. He grew up in the rural town of Walcha, where at an early age he developed a fascination for creating things.

After leaving school, Stuart studied Horticulture which led him to Landscape Gardening. Since that time, he has started a Basalt quarry on a family property and sells his product to landscape suppliers and architects.

The quarry is where the idea and inspiration came from to sculpt in Basalt stone.

Stuart is self-taught in stone sculpting.

In October 2017 Stuart entered his first art competition, winning his section at the Bendemeer Art Show.

He followed this up with another win in the sculpture section in the Armidale Art Prize 2018 at the Armidale Art Gallery.

Stuart was guest artist at an exhibition at the Armidale Art Gallery during September 2018 and is also to be a guest artist at the Gloucester Art Gallery in January 2019.
