Pix from the Stix 2008

Annual Local Photography Competition, Eight years on

“Pix from the Stix” will be opening again on the 11th of July. This will be the eighth year of this all inclusive, creative community event. Gloucester Arts and Cultural Council Inc. (GACCI) will once again host this year’s event.

Total prize money of $1400, including a grand prize of $500, should make the competition well worth entering. Chris Steele, president of GACCI, said ‘The quality of photography in this exhibition, just gets better & better & we hope that people enjoy the show’.

The competition will again have the overall winning entry to be acquired by GACCI and become a part of the Gloucester Community Collection, adding to the historical record of our beautiful region (see the entry form for more detail). Last years winner “Roger’s Truck”, by Jeff de Witte is currently hanging in the Gloucester medical centre.

The Gloucester Advocate will sponsor the Landscape section, the winning

Photograph to grace the cover of our local pink pages for 2009.

The “Pix from the Stix” committee would like to remind all participants that entry forms (which are available from the Visitor Information Centre and the Gloucester Gallery) for this year’s competition must be returned by the 27th of June to the VIC or to PO Box 217. All competitors are reminded to refer to the entry form for dates, times and the competition rules. All photographs, framed and ready to be hung in the exhibition (including hanging wire) must be delivered to the Visitor Information Centre/Gloucester Gallery on Tuesday 8/7/08 between 10am and 5pm.

There will be an official opening and presentation of prizes on the 11th of July at 7pm at the Gloucester Gallery. Kris Smith, Photomedia Coordinator, Associate Lecturer in Digital Photomedia, School of Drama, Fine Art and Music at the University of Newcastle, will be the official judge and announce the winners at the opening night. Hope to see you there.
