First inspired to experiment with the photographic technique of multiple exposure when she accidentally captured a double exposure on black & white film over 20 years ago, Rachel was fascinated by the mystery in the resulting image. In combining photographs from often opposing situations & places, Rachel creates a visual intricacy that can resemble the designs and textures of fabric and she invites the viewer to use their imagination to see the many & varied stories each image conjures.
There is a painterly quality to these photographs, some with the complexity of content, spiritual intonation and tonal quality reminiscent of Renaissance & Impressionist paintings. The interplay of light through the layers creates a depth and luminosity not easily portrayed in a single capture.
