The annual Gloucester Art Society exhibition 'Brushing up on watercolour skills'.

Opening night is Friday 9th at 6.30 with everybody welcome to join the artists for nibbles & drinks to celebrate their works.

Recently a wonderful opportunity presented itself for members of Gloucester Art Society when central Coast Watercolour Society booked Victorian Master Watercolourist Ev Hales to tutor a workshop for their group.

Gloucester Art group jumped at the opportunity, shared the airfare and Ev was available to come two days early to enjoy Gloucester's wonderful scenery.

11 members experienced Plein Air watercolour, some for the first time, which was terrifying.

She led us through the process of selecting our scene from the Gloucester railway car park to getting colour onto paper. That afternoon after returning to the studio we learned how to pull it together.

Friday we worked from our photographs learning how to control edges & understanding the patterns of light & dark that make exciting paintings.

Everyone is stimulated to produce new works for the Art Society's annual exhibition at The Gloucester Gallery
